Infererence is one of the key skills to successful reading at Junior School. Most children by Y4 or Y5 have become fairly fluent readers, so they don't really need to work on reading aloud and working out what the words are (decoding) quite so much. The important skill now is inference - reading between the lines. This is what makes reading interesting: reader working on the meaning of a text and really interacting with it. Here are a few guides to inference to help you develop this skill with your child at home.
